Area Manager

The role of an Area Manager within KierWSP is an incredibly varied and exciting one. I operate East Northamptonshire and Corby Districts. This involves ensuring that members within my team are working to all of the appropriate standards including Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality standards. I also have to interface with many different fields from the Operatives that work within the Area as well as MP’s, Parish councils and Members of the Public.

This role requires someone who can be flexible, as it is not a regular 9-5 job. The teams within the county work 24hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and it is my role to ensure that this all runs as smoothly as possible. I have to be available for meetings that may be required in the evenings, Out of Hours emergency calls, and Winter Maintenance organization and decisions.

The role also demands someone who is approachable, adaptable and patient. As there is so much interaction with different types of people, and usually the first point of contact for many problems that need to be dealt with, you have to be able to deal with problems quickly, efficiently and in a way that will guarantee that the client will be satisfied. You must be able to prioritise work to ensure that the Key Performance Indicators are all met to a high standard that will help in keeping the clients pleased as well.

A good Area Manager would be one that is ready for a range of diverse and challenging situations. They must also be personable and comfortable with liaising with different people in a professional and efficient manner. Most of all, they must be confident to supervise and direct a busy and hard working team.
